The Australia/US tax treaty needs urgent revision to prevent double taxation
Great work thank you. However one thing is missing. Change to legal basis of one IGA can affect all the others as far as i know (check w legal ppl). So this group should be supporting/ allied w legal challenges to FATCA privacy violations by Jenny vs HMRC (UK) and Accidental Americans France upcoming case against exorbitant renunciation fee. I feel that the plea to the UN against citizenship based tax gets to the core of the injustices. Also as FATCA has global reach i feel that global advocacy/alliance is important.
Australia and the EU are powerful — why can’t they just say no to citizenship based taxation? Do they not understand the consequences for their own economies? I think more international alliances and advocacy would help address the underlying motivation for govts that have sold out their taxpaying citizens: the coercive American tactic of threatening international banks with a 30% tax for non-compliance.
